Mental Health Resources for Struggling Students in Arizona

May 26th, 2025

Read time: 5 minutes

Teen mental health is a pressing issue, especially in Arizona, where many adolescents face significant challenges in accessing the support they need. A report from the CDC reveals that only about 58.5% of teenagers report getting the social and emotional support they need. The rising rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns show that it’s crucial to understand the landscape and the resources available to help teens navigate their mental health struggles.

At Grad Solutions, we know that when students’ emotional, mental, and physical needs are met, they can better focus on learning. Through resources and support, Grad Solutions is helping Arizona high school students who are struggling with mental health issues.

The Prevalence of Teen Mental Health Issues in Arizona

Mental health disorders among teens are alarmingly common. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 46% of American adolescents aged 13–18 will suffer from some form of mental disorder, with about 21% experiencing a disorder that impairs daily functioning. (Wikipedia

In Arizona specifically, the situation is concerning:

  • 27% of teens aged 12–17 have reported emotional, mental, developmental, or behavioral problems, yet less than half received counseling or treatment.
  • 17% experienced a major depressive episode in the previous year, placing Arizona among the highest in the nation for teen depression rates.
  • Only 52% of teens needing mental health services had adequate insurance coverage.
  • Among LGBTQ+ teens, 75% reported symptoms of anxiety, 65% experienced depression, and 49% had suicidal thoughts. (nexusteenacademy.com

These statistics highlight the urgent need for accessible and practical mental health support for Arizona’s youth. The following are some of the resources available to help those who may be experiencing challenges with their mental health:
